The relationship
comes first.

the body.

PERSON-CENTRED PSYCHOTHERAPY · SOMATIC AWARENESS
A relationship first.Space for your whole experience.
Angela’s main approach is Person-Centred Therapy. She begins with how things feel from your point of view, giving you room to explore experiences without being told what you should think or feel.
Depending on your needs, she may also draw on psychodynamic ideas, mindfulness-based approaches, DBT-informed skills and Somatic Experiencing. The focus and pace are considered together rather than fixed in advance.
FOUR THREADS OF HER APPROACH
Start with your experience.
You may be carrying feelings that have been difficult to explain, or concerns you have not had room to discuss. Angela’s Person-Centred approach places the therapeutic relationship at the heart of the work, giving you space to explore what matters to you. Learn more about Person-Centred Therapy.
Notice what happens in your body.
Stress and difficult experiences can sometimes be accompanied by tension, restlessness, changes in breathing or feeling disconnected. As a qualified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, Angela may help you pay attention to these responses gradually, without pushing through distress. Explore Somatic Experiencing.
Explore familiar patterns.
Some reactions or relationship difficulties feel as though they keep returning. Where relevant, Angela may draw on psychodynamic ideas to consider how earlier experiences and present-day relationships connect, without assuming that the past explains everything.
Find room for another response.
When emotions become intense, you may want practical ways to pause, recognise what is happening and decide what might help. If appropriate, Angela can draw on mindfulness-based methods and skills informed by Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). This does not mean she is offering a full DBT programme.
